Family Relationships
“Family relationships are one of the greatest facilitators of happiness.” –John C. Maxwell
Family relationships play a pivotal role in our lives and are an essential component of good psychological and emotional wellbeing. Family connections provide us with care, love, and support. Families form, in essence, a cohesive emotional unit built upon love and respect. When one person struggles, it causes disharmony and negatively impacts other family members, potentially leading the whole unit to break down.
To help and understand the family dynamics, I lead with empathy and build a genuine trusting relationship with each family member. I know how difficult it is to see someone you love struggling. I also know how to motivate someone who is struggling – together, we can do this. Through systemic family psychotherapy and counselling (a way of understanding interaction within families), I use my 25 years+ of experience to assess complex relational patterns and help you alter them. My goal is to bring about productive change through positive cycles of interaction, all while maintaining absolute confidentiality and making care accessible through options like online therapy for families.
In our sessions, I will:
- Work in partnership with family members to explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely. I will also help develop simple and easy emotion focused coping strategies.
- Talk about each person’s hopes, needs and goals in a way that keeps their important relationships connected.
- Guide family members towards sustaining positive interactions by evolving communication styles. This helps to keep everyone connected within a safe, peaceful and supportive atmosphere.
